With The Clerks Group

Musical Director Edward Wickham
Designer Mila Sanders

For this project with the Clerk’s Group, the early 13th C processional sung drama was turned into a portable promenade production in a church setting for various music festivals in England and Ireland – Warwick, Brighton, London, Cork, and Cornwall. The piece combines two biblical stories of the prophet Daniel: Nebuchadnezzar and the writing on the wall; and Daniel’s survival of the lion’s den under Nebuchadnezzar’s successor, Darius. The professional soloists sang from behind costumed local primary school children who were directed to perform the actions and who also sang the processional choruses. Brightly painted banners were used to supply Nebuchadnezzar’s vision, the lion’s den, a feast table, angels etc.
